The AAO’s Professional Development Committee presents
Safe Spaces for BIPOC Archivists
These virtual sessions are spaces set aside and reserved for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) archivists in our profession to connect and meet with one another in an informal, participant-driven environment.
Note that these spaces are only open to BIPOC archivists. Allies may want to review the list of anti-racism educational resources compiled by the AAO. For more information about why safe spaces are needed, see Blackwell, Kelsey, “Why People of Color Need Spaces Without White People,” the Arrow, 9 August 2018.
Meetings are governed by the AAO’s Code of Conduct as well as a guideline of confidentiality. It is essential that all participants agree to keep confidential the identities of individual participants and any names that may be mentioned during their time together, as well as any attributed specific comments. Agreement about this point is required.
