ARCHIVES AWARENESS WEEK 2025

The Archives Association of Ontario has designated April 7th to 11th as Archives Awareness Week.

Now, more than ever, as divisions persist across Canada, community remains vital to the work of archives. It is our duty to document, bridge gaps, and collaborate with the communities we serve, ensuring all voices are represented and heard.

Therefore, our theme for 2025 is: ”Reflecting the Communities that Build Us”. This week is an excellent opportunity to celebrate both your archives and the communities they serve, the importance of documentary heritage within your community, and your organizational achievements.

Share your story on the AAO website - submit recent stories and images about your archives and its communities.

Do you serve a unique community? Have you participated in a successful outreach initiative? We want to hear about it and/or see pictures to share your story with our community!

Stories will be collected and posted by the AAO Web Administrator on the 2025 Story submissions page to document and promote archives and their communities.

Examples of possible archives community engagement stories to share:

  • Events organized in collaboration with a community group
  • Community-based description activities
  • Outreach initiatives, including any lessons learned or new practices in your archives
  • Community-based archives instruction
  • Community-based collections

Please include images and relevant links related to your story.

Please submit information to this form by Friday, March 28, 2025.

Share your events on socials

We encourage members to program events and engage in social media initiatives. We would love to share your posts on our Instagram and Facebook accounts. Use the #2025AAW hashtag and tag us in your posts to be featured!

Shirley Spragge Bursary Fundraiser

As we take this week to celebrate our communities, consider supporting the larger archival community's newest members with a gift to the Shirley Spragge Bursary Fund. The Shirley Spragge Bursary covers the conference fees and AAO membership fees for students in archival programs, new archivists, and archivists in financial need.

Visit the bursary page for more information and to donate. Donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.

Get ready to raise awareness of archives this April with the Archives of Ontario! The Archives is excited to be hosting #ArchivesFunFacts — a new social media campaign launching on Monday, April 7 to kick off Archives Awareness Week in Ontario.
