Reconciliaction: an online workshop with Kim Haxton
The AAO Board of Directors invites you to participate in a free, members-only online workshop facilitated by Kim Haxton.
Workshop overview
In an interactive virtual format, Kim will lead discussion to:
Center Indigenous worldviews deconstructing colonial notions of linear time and other ideologies that are mobilized through Canadian national narratives which delegitimize Indigenous knowledge, history, and presence
Connect the dots from the past injustices to present challenges facing Indigenous people
Increase comfort with diversity
Increase active listening skills and being present with other people’s truths
Workshop goals
Provide tools to effectively navigate your work and foster safe spaces to work in.
Explore structural and systematic racism.
Develop a path forward for meaningful relationships.
Bio
Kim Haxton is Potowatami from Wasauksing. Kim has worked with Indigenous and settler communities across Turtle Island and abroad in various capacities to promote decolonization, healing and ‘lateral liberation’. In her work with IndigenEYEZ, a creative arts-based organization she co-founded, Kim works with Indigenous communities to reconnect with their culture and the land. Kim also does work in reconciliation, anti-oppression, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion within corporate and non-profit organizations.
