If you plan to attend the 2015 Annual Conference of the Archives Association of Ontario this May in London, Ontario, why not take on a more participatory role, and volunteer to serve as a session moderator for the conference?
Moderators introduce the presenters, keeping them to the necessary time-limit, and manage the question period (of course if the audience is shy, they might have to lead off the questions themselves). They also have to make any necessary announcements – it is not mandatory that the presentations are read prior to the conference (although that is certainly something they can do if they wish). Generally, pre-conference moderators contact the presenters to gather whatever bio info is necessary to introduce them, and also try to get them to submit a copy of their paper prior to the conference so that if something comes up (they lose their presentation copy etc), we can provide a copy to them.
If you think that this is something you would be interested in doing, send your name, contact info, and a brief bio, to Daniel German, AAO 2015 Programme Chair.
