Toronto Area Archivists' Group (TAAG)

The Toronto Area Archivists' Group is the Toronto Chapter of the Archives Association of Ontario. Known as TAAG, this group organizes professional development and social events for Toronto-area archives professionals, including workshops, tours, and parties! We welcome collaboration with archives, libraries, historical societies, and other groups. 

TAAG also provides an award to the convocating student with the highest academic standing in the Archives and Records Management path at the University of Toronto's iSchool.

    The University of Toronto’s student chapter of the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) and TAAG would like to extend an invitation to join us for a joint pub night on Wednesday, November 22nd at 6pm.

    This is an opportunity for members and non-members alike to chat, socialize, and talk all things archival and otherwise.

    We will be meeting at East of Brunswick (720 Spadina Avenue; just south of Bloor Street).

    Members of the chapter and TAAG will be present and hope to see you there!

    taag held their AGM on Thursday 21 April, outgoing President, Julia Holland, would like to thank outgoing chapter executive members Bev Darville (Treasurer), Juanita Rossiter (Secretary) and Jonathan Lofft (Past President). The new executive term will be for two years, and the slate that was approved consists of:

    If you haven't bumped into him yet at work, at an association meeting, on the TTC, or anywhere else he's been hanging out since arriving in Toronto: watching World Rugby finals in pubs, concerts, cheese shops, book fairs, fine dining establishments...

    taag invites its members to come on out and meet Ontario's new Chief Privacy Officer & Archivist of Ontario, John Roberts!

    He'll be briefly giving us his views on Canada from the outside, early experiences, and aspirations and after that, he is keen to meet and mingle with the folks in his new-to-him provincial chapter of the AAO!

    Digital Preservation and Access with AtoM and Archivematica


    Sarah Romkey, Systems Archivist for Artefactual Systems, will present on first steps for institutions to take when wanting to provide online access to their collections using AtoM, or preserving digital content using Archivematica. 

    Her presentation will address:

    • New features in the latest release versions of AtoM and Archivematica

    • How do AtoM and Archivematica work together

    • How to prepare for digital preservation activities with Archivematica


    When: Friday 11 September 2015 from 2 - 4:30pm

    Where: MacLean Hunter room, Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, 

       120 St. George Street, University of Toronto

    Schedule:

    The first hour (2-3 pm) will be a talk, then discussion/Q & A about AtoM (Archeion Coordinator, Amanda Hill, will also be present) and the second hour (3-4pm)  will be a talk, then discussion/Q & A about Archivematica, leaving time (4-4:30pm) for more in-depth queries. 


    If you have specific or general questions you are looking to have answered, you can send them in advance to Sarah (sromkey@artefactual.com) or (taag.chapter@gmail.com) and we'll compile them for Sarah!


    In order to give Sarah time to prepare - please submit questions by Friday 4 September 2015!


    Everyone is welcome whether they are currently a user of AtoM or Archivematica or not!


    Users of either AtoM or Archivematica are welcome to share stories or experiences with colleagues.

    The taag AGM was held Thursday 16 April 2015 at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC), with special guest, Wayne Reeves, Chief Curator, Museums & Heritage Services, City of Toronto, who gave a wonderful illustrated talk about  “Booze: At Home and Abroad During the First World War”. After the talk, RCYC Archivist, Bev Darville, gave everyone a tour of the land-side facility. Thanks to taag Executive, Wayne Reeves, all who were able to attend, Bev & the fabulous catering staff at RCYC, for making it a wonderful evening!
