The Toronto Area Archivists' Group is pleased to present the following event:

Law and Original Order: Legal Issues in Archives Workshop

The law has a huge impact on archivists, their institutions, and their records. There are legal aspects to almost every function an archivist performs. The workshop will very broadly cover laws that archivists encounter in acquiring, preserving, and making available archival documents. Topics will include:

  • Legal issues in acquisition and ownership
  • Cultural property and tax laws
  • Freedom of information and protection of privacy laws
  • Copyright law
  • Evidence law
The goal of the workshop is to introduce participants to the general legal framework that applies archives.

Workshop Instructor:
Loryl MacDonald has been the Records Archivist at the University of Toronto Archives since 2000. She is currently the President of the Association of Canadian Archivists and has served as president of the Archives Association of Ontario and of the Toronto Area Archivists' Group.
