All submissions, including letters to the editor, should be accompanied by the sender’s name, address and phone number.
Articles should be short: under 2 pages (or about 1000 words). The AAO reserves the right to edit for clarity and length.
Submitters will be contacted for major re-writes.
For graphics and custom layouts our preferred file format is TIFF. Layout software rejects graphics generated by Word programs (like TextArt and ClipArt in MS Word). Please do not put images in our article, but send them separately. Please indicate in your article where you would like the photo to be. In general submit a hard copy if special software is needed to open the file. This refers to photos, clip art, diagrams, and specially laid out announcements (i.e. a poster for a special event laid out to look a certain way). Specifications for images are 300 dpi, at least 3 inches wide, or 900 pixels. Bigger is better in terms of the way it prints.

Photographs: send a print.
Other: send a camera ready copy. A laser copy is usually sufficient. Do not send a fax except as a reference copy. Submissions will be returned only by request.
Custom layouts should be scaled to fit a one-quarter, one-half or full page (based on 8.5 x 11 inch page with 1 inch margins).
