**NEW and URGENT**
The Canadian Council of Archives (CCA has announced a public call for applications for the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCW-BCH) program for graduate internships, to start this late summer and early fall.
This call is made possible through a new investment by the Department of Canadian Heritage and will permit CCA to increase the number of internships for archives and for libraries operating in English.
Institutions that are interested in applying are encouraged to visit the web site (http://archivescanada.ca/YCW) to review Employer Guide for the program's guidelines as well as the list of government priorities before submitting an application online at https://young-canada-works.canada.ca/Account/Login .
Reminder to applicants that the YCW internship program’s goal is to offer a work experience to help a recent graduate who is entering the workforce.
As part of Archives Awareness Week your intrepid Advisor is today visiting at Archives of Ontario where the Ontario Historical Society is holding their Symposium Active Archives: Bringing Ontario's History Online. It's a full house with over 50 participants from OHS and I'm enjoying meeting several to talk about AAO services like Archeion and the Advisor programs.
Looking forward to conducting practice training day on emergency response and salvage for Archives of Ontario staff on March 2, 2017. There may be tweets and photos of the fun.
There is still time to apply for a YCW Internship as the deadline is March 15, 2017. Institutions who have already applied for a summer project are also welcome to submit an application for an internship as well. More information at http://archivescanada.ca/YCW

"Musty smell indicates a live and active mold infestation. But if there are particles of dead mold structures in the items, these are quite capable of causing allergic symptoms. The same proteins are present in the structure fragments. Dead mold is almost as allergy-provoking as live mold. The only difference is that people who are also allergic to some of the complex "fragrance" chemicals active molds release will not be affected as strongly. However, it is the proteins in the molds themselves that provoke most people.
And depending on the contents of the storm water, there may be other chemicals present in the artifacts. For example, the Sandy water from our area hauled up a load of industrial chemicals from the water and the sediments from the bottoms of our not-too-clean waterways plus some ugly bacteria from sewerage overflows and deposited all this junk in our stuff."

#AAW2016 was quite successful with many interesting events going on around the province to celebrate archives during the week of April 4-10. Thank you to everyone who opened their doors to the public, hosted a special event, posted about it on Twitter, Facebook and the AAOLIST.
AAO with generous support from the Archives of Ontario created posters and other resources for our members use in planning or promoting archives during this celebratory week. We also hosted a calendar of your events here on the website for public to see what was happening where.
Now we are already beginning to think about Archives Awareness Week 2017. We would appreciate your feedback about this year and whether our resources were useful to you and which ones you used. We would also like to hear your comments and ideas for how AAO can help promote Archives Awareness in 2017. This is a big year as Canada celebrates 150 years of confederation so we want to ensure everyone knows the value and importance of archives in telling our story of the past 150 years and for the next 150.
